It’s with a little of optimism that the Italian media is again speaking about Tottenham Hotspur interest in AS Roma defender Roger Ibanez.
Despite some days of silence about this rumour, Roma Giallorossa present a couple of factors to say a deal is now more likely.
Their headline says Tottenham are ‘back in the running for Ibanez’, and the reason for it is the events that have been taking place in the past few days.
The first one is the agreement that Spurs found to sell Davinson Sanchez to Spartak Moscow. As explained by Ange Postecoglou, the club now need to move for another-centre-back.
And good news for Tottenham is that Roma are in need of sales. Financial Fair Play rules forces them to make some money with outgoing transfers… and quickly.
It’s then claimed that even though the Serie A side had been demanding over €30m for Ibanez, €25m would now be enough to sign him.
That first request is what dissuaded Tottenham from moving for the player in the past, and the discount could now be key for a happy ending.
Whether Ibanez would be an alternative to Clement Lenglet, or someone Tottenham would sign as well, isn’t made clear.
