According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Wilfried Gnonto is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles are in the market for a wide attacker in the ongoing transfer window. And the 19-year-old Leeds United forward has popped up on the South London club’s radar this summer.
Wilfried Gnonto is a native of Verbania in Italy and spent most of his formative years in the country. He was part of Inter Milan’s youth division for several years before kick-starting his professional career at FC Zurich. But the Italian international did not last long in Switzerland and moved to Leeds United last summer.
The 19-year-old was in and out of the starting lineup throughout the 2022/23 season. And with Leeds United enduring a relegation-battling season, it was hardly surprising why they did not have a settled eleven. Nonetheless, Gnonto managed a decent tally of four goals and four assists in 28 appearances for Leeds United.
But the youngster’s time at Elland Road might end after just one season, with several Premier League clubs keen on signing him. Recent reports have linked him with Aston Villa and Everton. And the latest update has linked the teenage attacking prospect with Crystal Palace.
The Eagles have lost talismanic attacker Wilfried Zaha this summer as a free agent. And with the Ivory Coast international moving to Turkey, he has left a gaping hole in the offensive unit. In addition, recent reports have linked Michael Olise with a summer exit. And the French youth international might soon move to a bigger club amid links with Chelsea and Arsenal.
So it behoves Crystal Palace to delve into the market for at least one offensive reinforcement. And Crysencio Summerville recently emerged on the South London club’s radar. Pete O’Rourke has now suggested that Wilfried Gnonto also features on Crystal Palace’s wishlist.
The 19-year-old Italian international might be a more attractive target than Summerville due to his versatility. And considering Gnonto can play across the frontline, he is an option worth considering. But it will be interesting to see if a summer move sees the light of day for the young attacker.
