Leeds are in need of new signings in the remaining weeks of the transfer window, given the glaring lack of depth in a number of positions in the side.
Who they sign for a lot of positions remains a mystery, but the club have someone in the doors and seemingly ready to pen a contract.
LeedsAllOver revealed recently that Leeds were in talks with Byram over a new contract, and would be willing to offer him a deal on the basis that he remains fit for the foreseeable.
Such claims were relayed by the YEP this week, who reveal that the club are indeed keen on signing Byram, should he prove that his fitness can hold up after years of injury setbacks at West Ham and Norwich City – where he played under Daniel Farke.
What has Farke said about Byram?
Obviously, it’s common knowledge that Byram has been training with the club, given he has featured quite prominently during pre-season, and not under the guise of being part of the ever-growing Trialist family.
Farke was quizzed about the 29-year-old and whether he will pen a contract to rejoin his boyhood club, to which the German responded (via LeedsLive):
“We have had talks, concrete talks. But also, our style is we’ll speak about business when it’s done. We wait. He’s had a good pre-season.”
Leeds v Cardiff predictions?
Byram has shown enough in this pre-season to be considered a very solid signing for us, even as depth on either side of the defence.
He’s extremely comfortable in possession, and is no slouch in working hard to get the ball back, something we need at left-back.
While he’s right-footed, that could work in his favour on the left, knowing that we have tasked the left-backs to invert when we build from the back, as Leo Hjelde has proven to do very well.
