Wesley Hoedt spoke to watfordfc.com following Saturday’s goalless draw at home to Plymouth Argyle (August 12), with the Hornets controlling large periods of the game but ultimately having to settle for a share of the spoils.
Read the defender’s thoughts below…
We started really well, and we dominated the game overall. I think we definitely deserved three points, but it is another positive step in the process of implementing the way we want to play.
We had some good chances, and I think if we’d converted one of them early on it could have opened up the game. We were just missing that cutting edge, and the gaffer said he saw bits of tiredness in the team. We were sharp, but not 100 per cent, and maybe that was the difference in terms of putting our chances away.
They [Plymouth] stayed in the game and kept believing – in the first half they didn’t have many chances, but in the second half we opened up a little bit and we had to make some clearances and blocks. They had one really good chance which Dan [Bachmann] saved, so that is good for him as well.
It’s early in the season, and we’ve kept two clean sheets in a row which is really positive. We’re playing really attractive football and have picked up four points so far, so there’s lots to be happy about. Now it’s up to us to develop our game further, get those goals and keep producing the wins we really want.
