One game played, and the most difficult of games against Manchester City, and now one man of the match vote and player ratings completed from that game with Lyle Foster on top of the pile in both.
The striker has had a difficult start, in some ways, to his Burnley career having signed last January. He scored once against Wigan and was just looking to show some form at the end of the season before he was forced off at Bristol City with a concussion injury.
Last Friday, in what was his Premier League debut, he looked a different player and caused problems for the City defence. It was no surprise to hear he’d been chosen as the man of the match on the night and he’s done likewise here in our first man of the match vote of the season.
He won just short of half of the vote, 49% of it to be exact and was followed by the two defenders Ameen Al-Dakhil and Jordan Beyer who took second and third places with 13% and 11% respectively. One of the debutants, Luca Koleosho was fourth with 8% of the vote.
Three of those four players were in the top four in the player ratings and in the same positions too. Foster won it with a rating of 7.60 out of ten, followed by Al-Dakhil who was second with 7.04. A second debutant made third place, that was Zeki Amdouni with 6.58 just ahead of Koleosho whose rating of 6.52 out of ten won him fourth place.
The search has begun for the Up the Clarets 2023/24 Player of the Year, won last season by Josh Cullen. Foster has claimed ten points towards that with Al-Dakhil winning six points. All of Amdouni, Beyer and Koleosho won two points.
The full Manchester City result is below and the next vote won’t be underway until a week on Sunday after the Aston Villa game.
