Manager addresses Coventry City transfer talk amid ‘distracted’ claim

Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as Barnsley boss Neill CollLiam Kitchingins discusses captain Liam Kitching after the Sky Blues reportedly had a £2.5m bid for the defender rejected

Barnsley boss Neill Collins brushed off the suggestion that captain  has been distracted by speculation linking him with a move to Coventry City.

The Sky Blues are reported to have had a £2.5million bid for the defender turned down by the League One Tykes. Centre-back Kitching was only recently made Barnsley skipper after Mads Andersen was sold to Premier League newcomers Luton Town.

Kitching is under contract at Oakwell until the summer of 2026. But it is said that the 23-year-old is keen to test himself at a higher level.

Barnsley were beaten 3-1 at home by Peterborough United on Tuesday evening, having taken the lead. Barry Cotter put them in front six minutes after the break but goals from Hector Kyprianou, Jonson Clarke-Harris and Kwame Poku won it for Darren Ferguson’s side.

Kitching endured a tough second half and was at fault for Peterborough’s third goal. But Collins told the Yorkshire Post: “It’s too simple to say he’s distracted, based on his general performance.

“Would we say everybody was distracted for the last 30 minutes? I don’t think it’s down to that. These things happen.”
