Report: La Liga side complete bargain £1.7m signing of West Brom target

A report from Spanish site La Provincia claims newly-promoted La Liga side Las Palmas have completed the signing of Sory Kaba from FC Midtjylland in a deal worth £1.7m – amid reports Leeds and West Brom were interested in him.

It comes after Guinea star Kaba spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff, scoring eight in 17 matches and playing a crucial part in keeping Cardiff in the Championship. Returning to Midtjylland, his deal ends in 2024.

UD Las Palmas.Net said Leeds, Watford and Cardiff were three of six Championship clubs interested. The Express & Star said Carlos Corberan wanted him at West Brom. Mike McGrath said that Birmingham had had a bid accepted.

But if Spanish reports are now to be believed, it appears Kaba is off to Spain. It sees him join a Spanish side that gained promotion back to the top tier last season. Las Palmas have agreed a £1.3m fee – plus, £400k in add-ons.

Las Palmas complete Kaba signing amid Leeds and West Brom reports

A bargain. A player that managed to score one in every two games in the Championship last season, for a side that ended up in 21st place – one above the drop zone. To get him for just £1.7m is incredible business from Las Palmas.

It should also be seen as a trick missed, by Leeds. The Whites are struggling to spend cash, so bargains need to be the order of the day. We need a striker, a bit of physicality up top. A no.9 that allows us to swing a cross into the box.

Kaba is that. Proven in the Championship, physical, quick but also good in the air – he would have been a wonderful signing given the fee required to land him. But instead, he is off to play in the top tier of Spain with Las Palmas.
