Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury has announced his retirement after 14 years as a professional footballer.
The now 32-year-old joined Nottingham Forest from Arsenal for £1 million back in 2012, before making 145 appearances over a five-year stint at the City Ground.
Lansbury scored 32 times for Forest, including a first career hat-trick away at Barnsley in November 2016 under then-manager Philippe Montanier.
Midfielder Lansbury was a real fan favourite during his time as a Red. However, he left the club to join Aston Villa for a fee in the region of £3 million, having just six months left on his Forest deal.
The move didn’t work out for the midfielder, as he made 41 appearances in four years at Villa Park before being released.
What has Lansbury said after his retirement?
It is safe to say that Lansbury has ended his career on a high, after achieving promotion to the Premier League with Luton Town last season.
In his statement after the announcement of his retirement, the 32-year-old said, “I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who I have had the pleasure of working within the football world.
“From managers, coaches to teammates and to opponents – it’s been one hell of a ride!
“I’m so grateful for the amazing experiences – from the clubs that I have represented, being part of four promotions, to representing England at youth level and for the support I received whilst overcoming testicular cancer.
“The highs and the lows, I’ve loved every minute of it.”
