West Ham United have been handed hope in their pursuit of Manchester City and England Under-21 player Cole Palmer.
The 21-year-old has started the new season with a bang, firstly scoring a superb goal in the Community Shield clash against Arsenal earlier this month, which the Gunners won on penalties.
The winger repeated that feat with a superb header in the UEFA Super Cup match against Sevilla on Wednesday (16 August), with City winning on penalties this time around.
Academy graduate Palmer not only scored his club’s only goal on the night, but he also deservedly picked up the Man of the Match award.
Despite his heroics in Athens, however, the youngster’s future in Manchester is uncertain, as confirmed by his manager after the match.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Guardiola said, as quoted by Sky Sports. “I don’t think a loan is going to happen. He’s going to stay or we’re going to sell, but a loan is not going to happen.”
The 21-year-old is, therefore, certain to either stay or go permanently this summer, with the latter being superb news for West Ham, who have identified the winger as their top target in the final stages of the transfer window, according to ExWHUEmployee (15 August).
Their pursuit may just depend on what Manchester City have in mind for Hammers ace Lucas Paqueta, with the two clubs in negotiations over a deal for the Brazilian, as per Sky Sports (16 August).
Losing Paqueta would be a massive blow for David Moyes, but the East London club could do a lot worse than signing Manchester City ace Palmer as his replacement.
