Hidden exit confirmed as Newcastle follow Lewis Hall signing with surprise sale to Chelsea

Moments before Lewis Hall completed a loan-to-buy move to St James’ Park, Chelsea announced a signing of their own in the other direction.

Highly-rated midfielder Ollie Harrison has left Newcastle to join Chelsea’s academy, with the Blues confirming the arrival of the England youth international this morning.

It’s believed Dan Ashworth pushed hard to keep the 16-year-old on Tyneside, as there were hope behind the scenes that the young midfielder could be the next rising star to follow in the footsteps of fellow local lads Elliot Anderson and Lewis Miley. With that in mind, it’s a real shame he’s opted to leave for Stamford Bridge.

However, after interest from Brighton, Spurs and Wolves, the teenager has opted to join Chelsea, who released this statement confirming his arrival:

“Chelsea is pleased to confirm midfielder Ollie Harrison has joined the club after signing a scholarship agreement.

“The 16-year-old arrives from Newcastle United and will continue his development this season with our Under-18s, who started their campaign on Saturday with a victory over Crystal Palace.

“Harrison has been capped by England at under-16 level and was part of the side that this year won the Mondial Montaigu Tournament in France. Welcome to Chelsea, Ollie!”
