Philogene to Hull?
Hull City are in talks with Aston Villa over a deal to sign Jaden Philogene for £5million, according to The Athletic.
Philogene grew to become one of Cardiff’s fiercest attacking options last season, playing a vital role in keeping the Bluebirds in the Championship with his goals and trickery.
He impressed at Villa in pre-season and indeed Unai Emery told him he wanted to keep him around the club this season.
However, The Athletic claim that Philogene wants regular game-time at 21 years of age and he could not be guaranteed that at Villa Park this season.
As a result, Hull are looking to pounce and are said to be locked in talks over a deal to take him to Humberside. They also report that Stoke City, Ipswich Town and foreign clubs are monitoring the situation.
The Bluebirds have suffered two injury-time goals against them in their first three games and it has cost them three points. Add that to the defeat by QPR and they have just one point in three games.
There are green shoots of positivity, though, and they have played two of the better squads in the division. Next up is a game against Sheffield Wednesday, the bottom-placed club who got promoted from League One last season. Although Cardiff have a bad home record in recent years, these are the games they must be winning.
“If you look at the first half against Leeds, we were very well organised, created a few chances and took them,” he said. “Against Leicester, I thought we frustrated them a lot and had a bit more quality as well. There was more belief as well to go and hurt them, but we just couldn’t quite nick that second goal to really stamp our authority on the game.
“These are things we need to learn from and put into the next big game against Sheffield Wednesday.”
Ramsey scored his first goal for Cardiff in more than 12 years and it was an absolute stunner. A 30-yard rocket which soared into the top corner. It left the King Power Stadium stunned and got City back on level terms. It was a goal worthy of earning his side a draw, but that Cesare Casadei strike in injury time put paid to that.
Nevertheless, nothing should be taken away from the strike, which was pure and wonderful. Speaking about his goal, the midfielder added: “I fancied it, especially after last week hitting the bar. I was gutted not to score at home. I couldn’t have struck it any better today. Thankfully it went in the top corner.
“It was one of them days where I’m buzzing to finally score again in that shirt but disappointed not to come away with something.
“The fans turned out in their numbers, which is absolutely brilliant. For me to share that moment with them was really special and I wanted to make the effort to get to them and celebrate with them. It was a nice moment for me, giving back again.
“On a personal note, I’m very happy to be back and scoring again in a Cardiff City jersey.”
Loan round-up
Joel Bagan made a winning start to life on loan at SV Zulte Waregem at the weekend. The left-back played 90 minutes in the 2-1 win over Beerschot on his debut in the Belgian second tier.
