Neil Warnock has identified long-time target Ashley Barnes as Norwich City’s dangerman this weekend – because he’ll be the one with the whistle!
The Huddersfield boss says the Canaries are a better team than the one he faced in March when it ended 1-1.
“They battered us first half and then we came back at them second half and could have pinched it really,” he said.
“I think they’re a better side now. I’ve been after Ashley Barnes for eight years. He’ll be reffing the game on Saturday!
“They’ve got some good new players and a good mixture of youth as well. We know they’re a good side but let’s have a go at them.
“I think it’ll be our most difficult game. David’s got them flying and (first team coach) Narcis (Pelach) will be telling them everything about how we do things. I hope they go up because they’re a good club and David’s a good bloke. We’ll be trying to get a result but I don’t kid myself how hard it’ll be.
“Our season won’t be defined by this result but what we need to do is give them a game.
“I’m looking forward to it. I know we’re underdogs and what the reputations are, but I couldn’t ask any more from the team. We’ve made some mistakes I wouldn’t expect but you can’t blame one person, you’ve got to get on with it really.
“I went for an interview there once. Delia wasn’t there, but there were seven or eight gentlemen there, and one asked, ‘do you think our fans will like your style of football?’. I thought ‘I’m not getting this job anyway’, so I looked them in the eye and said ‘I think they’ll love winning games, yeah!’. I think they gave it to Bruce Rioch.”
