Manchester City reportedly want to close a deal for Wolves star Matheus Nunes in the next 24-48 hours.
The Premier League champions have sounded out the Portuguese maestro as a target with just a week to go until the window closes.
Nunes is someone they and manager Pep Guardiola really like.
City recently tried to sign Lucas Paqueta from West Ham United, but a deal fell through.
So since yesterday, they have been looking at two players; Nunes and Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
And now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation…
This morning, renowned journalist Romano has provided a bit more information on City’s chase for Nunes.
He said last night that City had lodged a bid, and that personal terms were agreed.
And this morning, he has added: “Manchester City will insist to close Matheus Nunes deal with Wolves in 24/48h after initial €50m proposal plus add-ons discussed yesterday.
“Pep, big fan of Nunes; player has already accepted City as destination. It’s now up to Wolverhampton.”
Wolves, of course, have been struggling financially this summer.
The club must turn a significant profit after overspending last year.
The club have not wanted to sell Nunes, but they simply cannot ignore big offers.
Nunes exit now looking likely
This story is moving quickly and it is very much looking likely Nunes could now be on his way.
It would be a major blow for Wolves to lose the 24-year-old, who has the potential to be extremely key this season for Wanderers.
But Wolves’ financial situation means there is a very real chance this move could now go through.
It sounds like the player wants the move.
And City obviously have a lot of money to spend on this transfer.
But it remains to be seen if Wolves can negotiate a higher price.
