Nottingham Forest cash in on 25 years old LB

Sources: Omar Richards agrees Olympiacos move after Nottingham Forest agreement

Nottingham Forest defender Omar Richards has agreed a loan move to Olympiacos, sources have told Football Insider.

The left-back, 25, is yet to play a single game for Forest, more than a year since signing from Bayern Munich in a deal worth £8.5million.

Richards will now join Forest’s sister club Olympiacos as he looks to work his way back to full fitness by playing regularly.

He previously spent seven years with Reading at youth and senior levels where he made 104 appearances for the first team.

But since joining Forest last summer the left-back revealed that he has suffered from a shin injury that required surgery and following his return to training the defender was still struggling.

Following a second round of surgery towards the end of the the 2022-23 campaign, Richards then had a hernia issue which also needed an operation and kept him out for the remainder of the season.

Although Richards appeared to be ready to go during pre-season, Forest boss Steve Cooper believes the defender needs to get his body ready for the demands of Premier League football after so long on the sidelines.

Richards will be able to get experience in the Greek top flight with Olympiacos and potentially European football.

The Greek side take on Serbian outfit Cukaricki in the first leg of their Europa League play-off on Thursday (24 August).
