Beto trains alone at Udinese amid £21m+ Everton transfer development in last 24 hours
Udinese striker Beto is training alone amid heightened interest from Everton, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Italian newspaper reported via their print edition on Friday (25 August, page 24) that Beto, 25, is looking to leave the Serie A club, who want £25.7million for the Portuguese centre-forward.
It is understood that so far, Everton have submitted an offer worth £21.4million plus add-ons to sign the former Portimonense striker.
Good enough to keep Everton up?
Beto scored 10 goals and supplied two assists in 34 appearances across all competitions for Udinese last season.
Udinese finished mid-table and Beto ended the campaign as their top goalscorer.
Everton may need him to score more than 10 goals this season, however.
Sean Dyche’s side hasn’t hit the back of the net in the opening two games of the new Premier League campaign while they also found it a struggle to score goals in pre-season.
Everton didn’t lose a pre-season friendly but scored just seven times in six games despite almost all of them games being against lesser sides in the EFL or dotted around Europe.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s new injury makes things worse but hopefully he isn’t out for too long.
Beto is an adept goalscorer but stepping up from Serie A to the Premier League could be problematic for the centre-forward, who might really just be a second-choice option for Dyche when Calvert-Lewin is fit.
We’ll see how this pans out but beggars cannot be choosers and Everton are certainly in the former category thanks to their financial situation.
