Tomorrow night, the Hatters take a break from the highly competitive Premier League to embark on a Carabao Cup journey.
It is a journey that could lead to a trip to Wembley, if we can turnaround the poor results that have blighted our progress, in the competition, in recent years.
Our opponents, on Tuesday evening, are the League Two side, Gillingham.
On paper it looks to be a home banker and in our recent poll, which asked the simple question:
88% of those voted are of the opinion that it will be the Hatters that progress to the 3rd round, with only 12% predicting a Gillingham win.
However, I’d imagine that a similar percentage would have gone for a win against Newport County (2021/2022) and Stevenage (2022/2023), in previous seasons.
Cup football can be a strange affair littered with upsets, especially in a competition which isn’t taken too seriously by the big guns of the Premier League, unless they reach the latter stages.
With two defeats in our opening two Premier League games, I see this fixture as a must win game, a confidence boosting win is needed to set us up for the home match with West Ham United, on Friday.
Also, it’d be great if it could be played in something akin to a full house, but as I type that doesn’t appear to be the case with a raft of tickets still available.
So, come on folks, snap those remaining tickets up and cheer the lads on.
