BREAKING NEWS; Ipswich Town are plotting a late move for Leeds United

Ipswich Town are plotting a late move for Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt ahead of Friday’s deadline, according to Football Insider.

The 21-year-old has been made available for loan as Leeds continue their activity in the transfer window. Kieran McKenna’s side are reportedly ready to swoop for the player but could face competition from several other Championship sides. Gelhardt has been a regular so far this season having appeared in all six games, starting four (two in the league, two in the EFL Cup).

The Whites are still actively searching for additions as well as already confirming the signing of Joel Piroe from Swansea City, that means game time for the youngster will become limited as Leeds secure more of their targets. He currently has a contract until 2027 and is highly thought of at the club, but a loan move is considered the best option. Prior to their relegation, he departed on loan to Championship side Sunderland where he scored three times in 20 appearances as Tony Mowbray’s side failed to gain promotion via the play-offs.

Ipswich Town have started the season in good form, winning three and losing one of their opening fixtures, with their only defeat coming against Leeds United with a score of 4-3. They also knocked Reading out of the cup on penalties yesterday as they now turn their attention to welcoming Cardiff City to Portman Road in the Championship. The Whites on the other hand welcome Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday at 3pm.

Writer’s View

The player departed on loan to the Championship last season with Sunderland, so on paper it makes sense to allow him to move again to gain vital experience. However, it is somehow confusing to see him loaned out to potential rivals in the league, surely it would make more sense to see him go elsewhere or even sold should he not fit in their plans. Swindon Town’s benefiting of loans of Jake Young and Dan Kemp from division rivals should give a stark warning as to what can happen.
