Update: In Stoke City’s Pursuit Of Montenegro International

Stoke City and Preston North End are now in a straight battle to sign Cadiz striker Milutin Osmajic, despite other European interest according to Spanish journalist Onda Cero.

The Montenegro international has been the subject of interest from Hellas Verona, Elche and CSKA Moscow, but it has now been reported that the forward is in ‘advanced talks’ to move to England before Friday’s deadline.

Who is Milutin Osmajic?

The striker began his career with Sutjeska Niksic, before completing a more to Cadiz in Spain in the summer of 2021. He has since had a loan spell with Turkish side Bandirmaspor as well as spending last season on loan with Portuguese side Vizela.

Osmajic has earned 17 caps for the Montenegro national team as well as making over 120 first-team appearances, scoring 32 goals in the process.

A good start

Stoke City have taken six points from their opening four league games so far as they sit tenth in the Championship standings. They began with a thumping 4-1 win against Rotherham, before falling to defeat against Ipswich. The Potters recovered to beat Watford but lost to Millwall at the weekend.

Alex Neil’s side will host Ryan Lowe’s Preston North End this weekend as they aim to make it back-to-back victories for the first time this season.

What’s been said?

According to Spanish journalist Onda Cero, Cadiz want to sell Osmajic which is the reason why the deal is pointing towards an English move rather than a move across Europe. However, the player will reportedly be the one that decides which club he moves to.

Writer’s View

Both Preston North End and Stoke City are set to miss out on Everton’s Tom Cannon, whilst Stoke are also expected to lose out on Ross Stewart which means that the duo are both in the market to land a new striker before Friday’s deadline.

Osmajic is a Montenegro international and would bring a fierce amount of experience into the Championship this season, but it remains to be seen which club he decides.
