Club rejecting €25-30m Wolves bid for player a problem for club – Setting a very high bar

Towarsd the end of the transfer window, Wolverhampton Wanderers needed to sign a midfielder, and one of the first players they targeted as RC Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra.

A €25m offer was made, but that was turned down by the Ligue 1 side, who no longer needed money after they were bought out by BlueCo.

They did, however, agree to sell Jean-Ricner Bellegarde to Wolves for around €15m, and yet their stance for Diarra was a strong message to all clubs, according to journalist Marco Conterio, who spoke to Raidue, relayed by Juve News.

This is because Juventus are also interested in the young midfielder, and there have been claims the Serie A side were close to getting him.

That, though, isn’t the case, and the fact that Wolves saw their big bid rejected is something Juventus need to take into account.

He said: “He’s one of the names they follow. There’s a problem given Juventus this season without the Champions League. Strasbourg rejected €25-30m from Wolverhampton. These are figures that are important for Juventus. It’s certainly a strong decision to choose whether or not to invest in the player.

“He is, however, one of those profiles that is leading Juventus to move towards a new direction on the market, towards the Diarras. He’s the kind of profile they will follow for the midfield.”

Whether Wolves decide to give it another go down the line remains to be seen, but it’s now clear that Strasbourg won’t let him go for cheap, if at all, and Juventus will know this.
