Bradford City loanee Rayhaan Tulloch is hoping to use Jamie Vardy as motivation to pursue his dreams of becoming an established Championship player, as confirmed in an interview with the Telegraph & Argus.
The 22-year-old arrived at Valley Parade on deadline day but has now spoken out in regard to his dreams of succeeding at The Hawthorns and is hoping to use his spell in League Two to prove a point to the staff at West Bromwich Albion.
Tulloch’s career so far
After breaking into the first-team scene towards the 2018/19 season, Tulloch earned his first loan move to Doncaster Rovers, although he was limited to just two appearances in a four-month spell. The winger has made seven appearances for West Bromwich Albion but is now experiencing his third loan spell in a year, following stints with Rochdale and Dundalk.
A tough start
Following last season’s disappointing play-off exit, Bradford City have been dealt a difficult start to the 2023/24 League Two campaign, sitting 16th after seven league games. The club began with a defeat against Crawley before bouncing back against Colchester.
The club have since won just one of their last five league games and are winless in their last three. Similarly, Mark Hughes’ side have scored just five goals this season, but have loaned out Jake Young who currently has nine goals in six matches for Swindon Town, which explains why a player such as Tulloch was a crucial addition to the club.

During an interview, the 22-year-old spoke about his journey to becoming an established Championship player stating…
“There’s always time, isn’t there, just look at Jamie Vardy and what he’s done.
“Anything can change in football. You can have one good season and end up in the Championship, so who knows. It’s about learning. When you go on loan, it’s completely different to your parent club.
“You’re more comfortable because you’ve been there for years and you know everybody. Then you get thrown into a completely different environment and it’s a bit of a shock to the system, but I think it’s character building. You grow as a player because you come out your comfort zone.
“Some young players go straight into the first team and kick on from there. Others have to go on loan like me and I think it’s helped me massively.”
Writer’s View
Although Tulloch is correct in stating that he still has ‘time’ to become a first-team player at West Bromwich Albion, he is running out of time at The Hawthorns to prove himself in my honest opinion.
Making just seven first-team appearances and with a contract set to expire, the odds are certainly against Tulloch. However, West Bromwich Albion are currently going through a squad overhaul due to financial issues, which does create an opportunity for a player like Tulloch to prove himself and create his own opening at the club.
