Following the prognosis of Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos’ Achilles injury, Steven Gerrard is prepared to intensify his search for a new center-back before the transfer window shuts.
After newcomer Diego Carlos was told he would miss the remainder of the season, Aston Villa scouts were alerted to look for another defender.
The 29-year-old strong centre back cost Sevilla a significant £26 million this summer. However, he was pulled off in injury time in Villa’s 2-1 victory over Everton because of a bad wound.
Later, the Brazilian left Villa Park wearing a boot for protection, and the club announced on Monday that he had ruptured his Achilles tendon.
The ace won’t play any more games this year and will likely require surgery and several months of recovery time before making a comeback closer to the end of the season.
Villa has already instructed their scouting network to compile a list of prospective new targets if the worst is confirmed in the meantime. The injury detracted from manager Steven Gerrard’s 2-1 victory over Everton on Saturday. “I’m extremely happy with the win and the performance, but if we lose someone who is so crucial to us, that could undermine the victory,” he remarked. Even though it doesn’t currently appear promising, we’re going to send him for an MRI scan.
“That worries me. The ankle and Achilles are affected. He’s not the kind to let things slide, as you can tell from the player and the man. The medical professionals are concerned, and he appears anxious, which is the
Danny Ings and Emiliano Buendia’s goals gave Villa the victory over Everton, and Gerrard claimed he was pleased with his team’s effort levels against the Toffees at Villa Park after a poor opening-day loss to Bournemouth. Gerrard stated, “I definitely think that our performance throughout the course of the 90 minutes warranted the result we got.
“It was quite different from last week: better quality, everyone was paying attention, and we got a big win. The conditions were quite challenging, and we had to put a lot of effort into the game. We need to get some of our bruises and bumps checked out. It was crucial that, so I’m hopeful that won’t damper the feeling we have.
Our positioning was considerably better, we passed the ball quite efficiently, and we had considerable control over big portions of the game. We scored two goals as a result of our excellent recovery, go, and execution. We still have a lot to learn, we need to handle our games better, and we need to be less naive. We have put ourselves under a lot of pressure at 2-0 by not doing a good enough job of stopping their goal. We still have a lot to learn, but winning our first home game with the crowd roaring after last week is a major victory for us.
