Despite rumours that Celtic and Premier League team Nottingham Forest were interested in Wilfred Ndidi, he says he never planned to leave Leicester City in the summer.
One of the main challenges confronting new Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca was to find a solution to a growing issue as the rangy Nigerian international appeared to lose the defensive skills that previously placed him among English football’s most efficient ball-winners.
And it appears he has accomplished this. Wilfred Ndidi was moved from a “number six” to a “number eight” position, and Pep Guardiola’s former assistant has been rewarded with some noticeably better performances in the new position.
Ndidi has scored three goals in eight games under Maresca, which is the most since the season’s start in 2020/21.
Wilfred Ndidi was mentioned in relation to Celtic and Nottingham Forest.
While potentially losing out on a return to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest or Champions League football with Celtic, the £15 million Genk signing is happy to be expanding his football horizons at Maresca.
“I’ve tried to understand more about Maresca’s philosophy and approach with an open mind. Everything is going nicely. Ndidi declares on the When You’re Smiling podcast on BBC Radio Leicester, “I’m glad I’m here.
“I didn’t want to go at any point. When I saw the news, I would occasionally just chuckle because it wasn’t true.
Ndidi may be making reference to rumours from the Daily Mail that a Celtic and Brendan Rodgers reunion was possible. Publications in Scotland immediately put an end to the speculations, and Ndidi downplayed Fabrizio Romano’s allegations that he was considering a move to Nottingham Forest on deadline day.

To be completely honest, no, the 2021 FA Cup champion continues. Because Maresca tried to convey his philosophy and the ease of the game when he arrived, I believe I can genuinely learn something from it.
