After spending the previous season on loan at Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven, Fabio Silva has admitted he didn’t feel particularly valued by former Wolves manager Bruno Lage. Silva’s decision to go out on loan was made by officials after they saw him struggle for minutes at Molineux. Silva played second fiddle to Raul Jimenez in his second season, with the Mexican having recovered from the head injury he sustained in the previous season.
Fabio Silva claims that during Bruno Lage’s second season, he did not feel appreciated. Silva conducted a lengthy interview with the Express & Star in which he covered a wide range of subjects.
He has acknowledged that he almost left the club.
However, Matt Hobbs was crucial in keeping him at Molineux.
Silva talked briefly about his second campaign at Molineux and acknowledged that, due to his difficulties, he occasionally shed tears.
Silva says this about the manager at the time: “I didn’t feel completely valued because I didn’t play too much.
“People will claim things like, ‘Oh he played 35 games,’ but if you look at my overall minutes, I may have played in just five games the entire season. If you always stay on for five minutes, it’s challenging.
“For me, it was initially discouraging because I had a successful season with Nuno, at the age of 18, with four goals and three assists, and I wanted to continue with Bruno with a Portuguese coach to protect that season,”
“However, afterwards, I realised that occasionally I’m not at fault. Football is similar to that. It was the toughest season of my profession, but I believe it was also the turning point in my personal growth since I learnt a lot during that time.
“I’m very strong mentally right now,”
Silva deserved more chances but lacked Lage’s confidence.
One can’t help but feel bad for Silva.
He had a difficult second season, so I can understand his concerns.
Making an impression when you just have five- or ten-minute appearances is difficult.
That is a very short amount of time for a striker to score. Before you know it, you’ve made 20 outings and haven’t scored, which is embarrassing.
signing for £35 million Silva clearly merited more opportunities under Lage.
Wolves, though, formerly advocated for playing in Europe.
The Portuguese apparently believed that playing his more seasoned players would increase his chances of success.
