Celtic injury updates on Hart, Giakoumakis, Welsh, and Jenz as a mixed picture develops following the Sydney Super Cup loss
The Hoops were forced to play without several first-team players in their loss to Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou has provided a detailed Celtic injury update following the Scottish champions’ first Sydney Super Cup defeat.

Postecoglou made a few changes for the friendly against Sydney FC, which kicked off their winter vacation in Australia as the World Cup took front stage in Qatar. The Scottish Premiership leaders suffered a shock defeat to the A-League side at the Allianz Stadium, while Stephen Welsh had to be substituted in the second half following a horrific head collision.

Due to the injury, Celtic may be obliged to make more changes for the match against Everton on Sunday. After the game, Postecoglou was questioned about the seriousness of Welsh’s injury, but he conceded he couldn’t guarantee he’d be available to face Everton on Sunday. ‘I don’t know, mate,’ he replied. He is currently being sewn up. It was obvious (painful) at the time, but it was more about getting the stitches in.”

Despite flying out for the competition, Joe Hart and Giorgios Giakoumakis both failed to make the bench. Postecoglou revealed that both received knocks prior to the game but would not be out long.

“Joe was a little sore after the last game,” he explained. Giako missed training because he had an inflamed toe. Both should be able to train and play on Sunday.”

Moritz Jenz was also left out of the team for the encounter, with Postecoglou admitting he might not be able to face Frank Lampard’s players. “We’re going through concussion protocols with him,” he added. He passed all of the tests, but we won’t know until Sunday.

“He is currently training on his own. We’re looking into a few options, but if all goes well, he should be able to train on Saturday.”
