‘It’s going well, but I’ll keep going,’ says Leicester City’s top player of his new midfield role.
Wilfred Ndidi has started the new season well for Gent, scoring three goals and assisting once.
According to Soccernet.ng, Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has opened out about his new midfield role at Leicester City under Argentine manager Enzo Maresca.
The 26-year-old began his career as a central midfielder before being converted to a defensive midfielder with Belgian club Racing Genk, where he joined Leicester City in 2017.
During Leicester City’s time in the Premier League, he played in his converted defensive position under previous managers.
Ndidi, on the other hand, has been given an entirely different situation.
This season, the Nigerian International has been used in a more forward position, and he has adapted fast, scoring three goals and assisting once in ten games in all competitions.
Ndidi was again crucial in Leicester’s 1-0 victory over Bristol City in the Championship on Saturday, when his movement provoked Kal Naismith into hauling him down in the box, resulting in a penalty converted by Jamie Vardy.
The former Genk midfielder revealed that he is adjusting to his new job under the Argentine manager’s tutelage.
He said, “Kudos to the manager for trying to help me understand the role.” According to Leicester City’s website, he is attempting to assist me.
The guys that naturally fulfil that role are also assisting me. It’s a procedure. It’s going good so far, but I’ll keep continuing. It’s quite fascinating because I’m trying to spend more time in the box. I’ve always had it, but it took Enzo to make me realise I did. He’s attempting to push me.
Ndidi has appeared in all of Leicester City’s matches this season, assisting the Foxes in winning seven of their eight Championship games and moving them to the top of the table.
