Leicester City head Enzo Maresca believes the Foxes will be without Manchester City loanee Callum Doyle for a “long time.”
Doyle joined Leicester City on loan from Manchester City in the summer.Since then, the 19-year-old had played every minute of every game for Leicester, until he was forced off at half-time of last week’s 1-0 triumph over Bristol City.
And, speaking to the club ahead of tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup match against Liverpool, Maresca confirmed that Doyle has suffered a major injury and will be out for some time.
According to Maresca:
“Unfortunately, it’s not looking good. It’s expected to be a lengthy absence. The only thing I can say is that it will be a long time. We don’t know how long this will last.
“They are conducting some checks.” We don’t know the nature of the damage or when it occurred.”
The Foxes have started the 2023/24 Championship season strongly, collecting 21 points from their first eight games to sit atop the standings.
They travel to Anfield tomorrow night to play Liverpool in the third round of this season’s Carabao Cup, albeit Doyle will be noticeably absent from the squad.
Maresca went on to say that James Justin might replace Doyle in the Foxes’ starting XI tomorrow night, with summer addition Conor Coady also in the running.
Leicester City has suffered an injury setback.
Doyle has been a standout performer for Leicester City this season. And he’s a highly versatile player who can play a variety of places on the back line, so his injury is a huge setback.
But it appears that his injury has come at a favourable time for Coady. The former Liverpool man could replace Doyle in the defence, forcing Maresca to reconfigure his backline.
And for Doyle, at such a young age and so early in what appeared to be a promising season, this injury is terrible.
