Journalist reveals what Everton is actually attempting to accomplish with Dele Alli’s current deal

Paul Brown has suggested that it is unlikely Everton will be able to re-negotiate Dele Alli’s deal.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist claimed that ‘it wouldn’t make a lot of sense’ for Tottenham to make changes to the move that saw him leave North London.

Dele spent seven years after Tottenham after he earned a £5 million move from MK Dons in 2015. The midfielder very quickly became one of England’s most promising young players as he netted 28 goals in his first couple of seasons in the Premier League.

However, Dele’s career quickly went downhill and he was eventually sold to the Toffees after falling down the pecking order in the English capital. The 27-year-old was sent out on loan to Besiktas last season and is still waiting to return to Everton’s line-up after he returned to Merseyside early with a serious injury.

Dele has now made only 13 appearances for Everton since joining the club, but is only seven games off forcing Sean Dyche’s side to cough up another £10 million to Tottenham.Everton Pre-Season Training Camp

Everton are eager to give Dele a second chance to reignite his career at Goodison Park, however Dyche has previously admitted that they are looking at re-negotiating the clause with Spurs.

Earlier this week, the Toffees boss said: “[Dele Alli] is not ready [to play] yet, when he is fit and well, I am sure Kev will go to Tottenham and say ‘Right, how can we make this work for everyone? It has never been at that stage, so we have to wait for it.

“He was training with us, warming up and doing the drills, and he strikes the ball and is knocked back to square one. It was a real blow to him. He’d had an operation on his groin, they internally stitched it like an anchor inside his body, and one of them popped out having a shot and that was it.”

Everton’s financial situation could make it very difficult for them to offer first team football to Dele, who is desperate to turn his career around after a difficult few years.

Can Everton and Tottenham come to a new agreement over Dele?

However, Brown has admitted that it could be difficult to agree fresh terms with Daniel Levy as it is not something that he ‘commonly does’.

Brown said: “It wouldn’t make a lot of sense from Tottenham’s point of view to renegotiate it now, and it’s not something that Daniel Levy commonly does. You know, it would depend on exactly how they want it re-negotiated and what they are suggesting.

“I know there is quite a lot of affection out there for Dele Alli and people want to see him do well. I think both clubs actually do acknowledge that the guy’s had a tough time recently and would genuinely like to see him out there playing and succeeding and looking happy again.”
