As Michael Beale admitted midweek that Kemar Roofe had picked up yet another injury issue, you could almost hear the internal groans of Rangers fans ring out around Scotland.
The Jamaican international striker, 30, has spent the best part of the last two seasons laid up and whilst the forward has been a reliable option when fit, he’s been equally reliable as a safe bet to be unfit.
The inward groans of Rangers supporters could almost be heard resonating around Scotland as Michael Beale revealed midweek that Kemar Roofe had developed yet another injury problem.
The 30-year-old Jamaican striker has missed the majority of the last two seasons due to injury, and while he has been a reliable option when healthy, he is also a good bet to be out of shape.
Kemar Roofe was acquired by Rangers for a reputed £4.5 million from Anderlecht in 2020, and the striker went on to become Steven Gerrard’s best league scorer as the team won 55.
But Kemar Roofe has missed so many games since then that it really surprises people to see him wearing a Rangers jersey.
The Livingston injury concerns demonstrate how risky it is to bet on Roofe’s fitness for the duration of a season. This may seem harsh on the player, but it is not meant to be.
And that’s exactly what Rangers and Michael Beale have done going into the new season, with the manager at Ibrox adamant that Kemar Roofe would be a significant player for the club this season.
