Anthony Gordon received his fifth caution in seven Premier League games in yesterday’s 2-0 victory against Burnley, and he will miss our weekend trip to West Ham as a result.
The winger’s ban, according to Eddie Howe, is “absolutely a killer for us” because he has had such a strong start to the new season after leaving Everton.
Gordon has so far contributed two goals and two assists in the Premier League. He has also recently won two crucial penalties at St. James’ Park.
When the 22-year-old kicked the ball away, he received his fifth yellow card. It was a questionable choice because he didn’t appear to hear the whistle, but it’s a major setback given that Sven Botman, Callum Wilson, and Joelinton have recently suffered setbacks due to new injuries.
Howe responded when asked about his ban, “It’s a killer for us. Anthony has been in fantastic shape and has greatly improved the team. a pointless caution.”

As Howe provides, Newcastle faces an injury dilemma before facing PSG. Update on Botman and Joelinton
Injuries have caused serious concerns for Newcastle United ahead of a crucial Champions League match.
Three of Eddie Howe’s stars might not be available for the Champions League home opener against PSG.
Due to a hamstring injury, Callum Wilson was sidelined for the Magpies’ 2-0 victory over Burnley at St. James’ Park, and Sven Botman sat out due to a knee issue. And Joelinton has now added to the Tyneside area’s injury troubles after leaving the game against the Clarets early due to a hamstring problem.
Calum has a very slight hamstring issue, Howe remarked following the 2-0 victory over Burnley. We anticipate his return soon. Although there is no guarantee, we expect to see him before the international break.

Barnes hears of his 2024 return as Howe discusses the effects of his injury on Newcastle.
We probably won’t see Sven until the international break because of a knee injury. Hopefully, we’ll run into him right away after.
Joelinton has what appears to be a hamstring. We’ll have to wait and see, but losing him (Joelinton) would be a major setback.
Anthony Gordon’s punishment for the following Premier League match against West Ham was also levied against Howe. The blow of Joelinton’s injury on Saturday afternoon added to his suspension.
The suspension is a complete death sentence for us, according to Howe, as Anthony has been in excellent form. You don’t want to remove him from the team because he has been amazing and has greatly improved the team, especially with the rhythm he is currently in.
After that, there will be an international break, so he won’t be able to play for a considerable amount of time. It’s a significant setback and likely an unnecessary yellow card.
