Jacob Ramsey has resumed group training this week after recuperating from a foot injury, according to Aston Villa.
After breaking his metatarsal while representing England U21s internationally in the summer, the 22-year-old has yet to play this season, and his presence in the lineup has been sorely felt.
New contract negotiations are being promoted for a key Villa player
In 38 appearances last season, Ramsey scored six goals and contributed eight assists. Considering that many of those came after Unai Emery was hired, the Villa manager will likely be thrilled to have Ramsey back at his disposal for the remainder of the season.
It’s unclear when the Villa midfielder will be deemed fit enough to play, but as evidenced by the club’s tweet below, he appears to be back in group training and practising on the grass at Bodymoor Heath.
He will need to gradually reintegrate into the team to regain his match fitness and mental acuity in order to prevent rushing.
Time will tell if he can make the bench this week against Legia Warsaw in the Europa Conference League or at Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, but with such a busy fixture schedule coming up, having him back in full training will be a huge boost in and of itself as he nears a comeback.
The Villa duo were so crucial for us down the left flank last season, and with Alex Moreno also returning to training over the international break, it’s a huge double boost for Emery who will now have two key players back available and ready to make their mark as we try to build on our strong start to the season.
It’s hoped that Ramsey will now have a huge impact going forward and add a crucial element to our play that we’ve missed in his absence given what he offers in both phases of the game, but notably with his danger in the final third from an attacking standpoint.
