Steve Aizlewood, a former defender for Newport County, Swindon, and Portsmouth, passed away at age 60 after a brief illness.
Aizlewood, a former Wales international whose brother Mark currently manages Welsh Premier League team Carmarthen Town, began playing for Newport in 1968. He went on to make 197 appearances, score 18 goals, and earn a cap for Wales Under-21s before signing with Swindon in 1976.
Aizlewood joined Portsmouth three seasons later, then played for Waterlooville in the Southern League before retiring in 1984. He afterwards worked as a surveyor.
Aizlewood, who passed away in the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, according to a family spokesman, is survived by his wife Val and son Simon.
