After suffering a terrible injury on Tuesday night, Blackpool custodian Daniel Grimshaw had to be given oxygen before being taken to the hospital.

During the first half of their Championship match at Deepdale, the 24-year-old and Preston North End forward Cameron Archer were involved in a horrific collision. Prior to being carried off the pitch and transported to the Royal Preston hospital after the injury, Grimshaw got rapid medical attention on the pitch.

As the two wrestled for the ball, the former Manchester City goalie was caught by Archer’s leg. Referee David Webb immediately halted play so Grimshaw could be attended to.

Blackpool’s medical personnel rushed onto the field to treat Grimshaw before he was loaded onto a stretcher, forcing the game to be paused for almost ten minutes. He was removed off the pitch in the 20th minute and applauded by both sets of supporters before being transported by ambulance to the Royal Preston hospital.

Archer, an Aston Villa striker on loan, scored the game’s lone goal in first-half stoppage time, defeating Grimshaw’s replacement, Chris Maxwell.

At the beginning of the season, Maxwell was Blackpool’s first choice between the sticks until being replaced by Grimshaw, who has had a great season at Bloomfield Road.

After making his League Cup debut in August against Middlesbrough, Grimshaw quickly rose to the top spot and has missed just two games since October.

He has since made 29 appearances for Blackpool this season, recording nine shutouts while allowing just 27 goals overall.

Grimshaw is in his debut season with the Seasiders after joining on a free transfer from City in the summer. Despite graduating from the club’s academy, Grimshaw was unable to play for City’s senior team at the Etihad Stadium.
