Report: Broncos are releasing thier goal machine

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Denver Broncos are releasing linebacker Randy Gregory as part of the team’s strategy to focus on younger players.

Gregory, 30, will be a free agent after recording nine tackles and a sack in four games this season.

Gregory agreed to a five-year, $70 million contract before the 2022 season. According to the Roster Management System, his $14 million base pay this season and another $5 million next season are fully guaranteed.

In 48 career games, Gregory has 95 tackles, 19.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, and an interception for the Broncos and Cowboys. Linebacker Nik Bonitto replaced Gregory as a starter last week against the Chicago Bears and helped force a game-tying sack-fumble that was returned for a touchdown.

Randy Gregory was released by the Denver Broncos after signing a 5-year, $70 million contract in the 2022 offseason.

The Denver Broncos have released outside linebacker Randy Gregory, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Gregory’s career with the team did not go as planned after signing a 5-year, $70 million contract during the 2022 summer. He was on fire last year before sustaining an injury and losing substantial time, and he hasn’t been the same since. He only appeared in ten games for the team.

The deal included $28 million in guarantees over the first two years, meaning the Broncos will save a lot of money on the salary cap over the following few seasons. They will, however, take a significant dead money penalty this year after releasing him after four games in 2023, as well as some dead money in 2024—but this will free them roughly $10 million in cap space for next year.

The Broncos will now rely on Jonathon Cooper and Nik Bonitto as their primary outside pass rushers for the remainder of the season. They’ve looked decent thus far, and it appears the team is looking for them to develop and gain more playing time. Furthermore, Baron Browning is expected to return soon, giving the Broncos more youth at the position. Frank Clark is also expected to return from injury.

This is an urgent emergency, and we will update the post as needed.
