Former Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday feels former Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town should be considered to replace Mick Beale at Ibrox.
You’d have to look far and wide to find a head coach with a better track record in the last six months or so.
Ipswich Town are second in the Championship with eight victories from ten games, and repeated promotions are not out of the question for a club that hasn’t played in the Premier League in over a decade.
20 years. In fact, Kieran McKenna’s irrepressible Tractor Boys have won 21 of their past 25 league games, with an overall aggregate score of 66-15.
As the popular Second Tier podcast phrased it, it was a ‘astonishing’ return.
According to Halliday, such a phenomenal return is reason enough for Rangers to seek south of the border and recruit a former Manchester United assistant from the Old Farm to the Old Firm.
Rangers are being pushed to consider Ipswich Town manager
“Every (manager) you hire is a risk.” “You can only tell if they are a success by the time they leave the club,” Halliday, who played for Rangers from 2015 to 2020, contends.
“Whoever it is, they will have the full support of the fans and players.” And perhaps it will be a success. Some names are unquestionably more interesting than others. Kieran McKenna, who is now on loan at Ipswich Town, has not been mentioned.
“He’s another name I would like to see linked with the job.”
The Rangers’ managerial hunt is still ongoing.
Rangers look to be examining a variety of alternatives, with reports linking the Glasgow giants to coaches based in Japan, Norway, and the Netherlands, as well as Birmingham and Preston closer to home.
The Sun’s Alan Nixon believes that Pascal Jansen, who is second in the Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar, will meet with the Rangers board, as will long-serving Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen.
