Jakeem Grant Sr. of the Cleveland Browns suffered a leg injury against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jakeem Grant Sr. was attempting to recover from an Achilles tear suffered last August. The Cleveland Browns wide receiver appeared to be in line to make the team as a return guy.
Grant was injured on the first play of Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs as he brought the kick out of the end zone to the Browns 18.
Grant was taken off the pitch with a knee injury, according to media reports. When he exited the pitch, he was wearing an air cast on his right leg. As Grant was being brought away, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes approached and hugged him.
When Kansas City kicked off after Grant’s injury, running back Demetric Felton was the kick returner. In the first quarter, wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones took Grant’s place as the team’s punt returner.
Grant signed a three-year contract with the Browns in March 2022. He was picked by the Miami Dolphins in 2016 as a wide receiver and return guy. After being traded to the Chicago Bears in 2021, he was named to his first Pro Bowl.
With 743 yards between punt and kick returns, he averaged 23.5 yards per kick return.
