Derek Beaumont reveals “big” new signing for Leigh Leopards as he gives update on academy license

The owner of LEIGH LEOPARDS, Derek Beaumont, has revealed that a “big” new signing will be heading to the Super League club ahead of the 2024 season. The Lancashire club took rugby league by storm in 2023, winning the Challenge Cup and finishing fifth in the Super League table. But, like anything, that momentum must be built upon moving forward – and Beaumont is determined to do so with the hope of an academy licence for 2025 as well as new recruits.

“It’s like anything else in life; you have to move forward and progress.” We’ve finally secured a back-to-back Super League season, and I knew that was all we had to achieve,” Beaumont said on BBC Radio Lancashire.

“The focus is on applying for an academy licence next year; that is a vision for us, and we should get it the following year so we can bring our own players through.”

“Our recruitment is nearly complete; we only need one or two more players.” We haven’t publicised what we’ve done yet since doing so would be rude.

“There’s a big one in there, and I’m going to give you an exclusive for BBC Radio Lancashire.” There will be a large one in the next three or four weeks.”

In recent weeks, the Leopards have been connected with Dolphins halfback Anthony Milford.
