After the Aston Villa goalie missed practice due to international duties, Sweden coach Janne Andersson dismissed worries about him.
The 33-year-old has only made four appearances so far this season, but as Emiliano Martinez’s primary backup and Unai Emery’s only other senior option, it’s critical that he continue to be a steady presence for us on the bench.
Villa has a chance to recuperate after laying the groundwork ahead of a crucial run.
His absence from practice this week while playing for the Swedish national team raised concerns, but his coach has downplayed the significance of the incident despite bringing in additional goalkeepers.
“Jacob Zetterstrom was taken in by us. Today and tomorrow, Robin Olsen will be in rehabilitation. Jacob joins and trains with us for that reason. Regarding Robin, the margins are significant. He should take it easy the first few days, but I’m not afraid about Monday,” he remarked, according to Aftonbladet.
Olsen is anticipated to play in Monday’s European Championships qualifier between Sweden and Belgium based on Andersson’s earlier remarks.
Olsen’s reliability as a replacement for Martinez is still being questioned by some, but Villa need to avoid further losses due to injuries after already having several vital players miss time this season.
The seasoned Swedish stalwart’s participation will be further constrained by our early withdrawal from the Carabao Cup,
If he does play for Sweden on Monday, it is hoped that he won’t exacerbate the problem that has kept him from practicing and that he will be able to sit on the bench if necessary when we play West Ham United on October 22.
