When Howe and Giants rookie Jacob Hopper collided in the fourth quarter, Howe, who was leading the team in disposal wins at the time, suffered a terrible knee twist.

As soon as it was apparent that something had gone dreadfully wrong, both teammates and opponents cried for help.
Trainers had to help the 29-year-old off the pitch because they were concerned the top defense would be out for a few weeks.
Jude Bolton, a former Sydney Swans star, told Channel 7: “That was dreadful to watch.

After the game, Magpies coach Nathan Buckley said he was “pretty flat” for Howe and predicted a protracted sideline absence.
“His knee hasn’t recovered well from it. MCL (medial collateral ligament) and PCL (posterior cruciate ligament) were the initial diagnoses, but we won’t see him for a while, I don’t suppose, said a heartbroken Buckley to reporters after the game.
He is an excellent player and leader. I feel terrible for him. He commits his entire self and a lot of effort into his football.
Howe, one of the league’s toughest players, has played in at least 21 games each of the previous eight seasons, a streak that is about to come to an end.
