Tua Tagovailoa was transported to a hospital on Thursday for head and neck injuries after suffering another concussion on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was carried off the field on a stretcher after suffering head and neck injuries against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday.

The 24-year-old athlete was thereafter brought to the hospital for a comprehensive checkup, according to a tweet posted Thursday night by the Dolphins’ official Twitter account.

The team later announced that Tagovailoa was “expected to be discharged from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and will fly home with the team tonight.”

In a tackle by Bengals’ Josh Tapou during the second quarter of the game, Tagovailoa’s head was smacked to the ground, according to the New York Post. As soon as that happened, Tagovailoa seized up and emergency help was summoned.

According to ESPN, he lay motionless on the field for around 10 minutes before being taken away on a stretcher.

When PEOPLE asked a Miami Dolphins representative for comment, they did not respond right away.

After the team’s 27-15 defeat on the field, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel spoke with reporters about the issue.
