A recent graduate of Nottingham Forest’s academy makes his first debut for Northern Ireland in their 3-0 victory over San Marino.
Dale Taylor, a highly regarded striker for Nottingham Forest who has yet to register his first professional goal, continues to make an impression on the international stage.
The 19-year-old made his senior team debut for Northern Ireland on Saturday against San Marino while on loan with League One outfit Wycombe Wanderers. Despite a 3-0 victory for Michael O’Neil’s team, Taylor wasn’t among the goal scorers.
The Forest player has previously joined Northern Ireland in three qualifiers against Lithuania, Denmark, and Kazakhstan as a substitute. Against San Marino, he did believe he had scored his first goal for his country, but the offside flag disallowed it.
When Taylor was let through one-on-one with the goalkeeper in the second half, he again had a chance to score, but his attempted dink missed the goal by a whisker. He will have to wait a little longer to score his first international goal because he was removed in the second half. Northern Ireland will play next on Tuesday night when they visit Slovenia in a Euro qualifier.
Taylor has already scored three goals for Wycombe this season, including two in his final game before joining the Northern Ireland team. The kid scored twice as Wycombe defeated Fleetwood Town 4-1 on his first start in five league outings.
The academy graduate has made just one first-team appearance for Forest, coming on as a late replacement in the Carabao Cup victory over Grimsby Town in the second round of play last year. He was also included in the matchday squad for the 1-0 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace in November.
