Russell Gage, a Bucs receiver, is expected to leave the hospital
TAMPA — Wide receiver Russell Gage of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers “has had movement in all extremities,” according to the organization on Tuesday morning. Gage suffered an injury during Monday night’s playoff loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Coach Todd Bowles predicted that Gage will leave the hospital this afternoon on Tuesday.
With 2:55 remaining, Gage was struck across the neck on a second-down play, resulting in the injury. He attempted to stand up on his own but was unable, so he was treated on the field before being transferred to the hospital.
On Monday night, players from both teams knelt and prayed while Gage was treated by medical professionals. Before the game resumed, Tom Brady, who threw the pass to Gage, was standing close to the medical personnel.
The Bucs’ season was over after their 31-14 loss against the Cowboys.
The sudden unpredictability surrounding Gage’s injuries provoked a social media outpouring of sympathy.
Robert Griffin III, a former NFL quarterback who currently works as an ESPN analyst, tweeted: “Prayers up for Russell Gage.”
Tuesday afternoon, Gage Jr. tweeted in response to the encouragement, “I just wanted to let you all know that I’m doing fantastic and in great spirits! I’m grateful.
