Due to complications with a rib injury, Collingwood ruckman Mason Cox will miss the AFL showdown against Richmond at the MCG.
The club initially thought Cox’s injury, which occurred during the Magpies’ round-two victory over Port Adelaide, was merely bruising.
However, further examination found a haematoma, which, depending on the outcome of more scans, might keep the 32-year-old from working for a few weeks.
Cox stated on Thursday that he would not be participating in Richmond’s game on Friday because “I’ve had better days.”
In essence, there is some internal bleeding and minor bruising in the rib area.
“I visited the hospital yesterday and had blood drawn as well as scans. A significant 24 hours have passed.
Cox hopes to return to action in time for Essendon’s game against the Tigers on Anzac Day, however he will undoubtedly miss Friday’s game against the Tigers.
“My parents are coming to town (for the Essendon match), so I’m hoping I can make that one,” he stated.
“That’s the one I definitely want to be there for but it is up to the doctors.”
Mason’s health is our top concern here; he will now undergo additional scans before we set a schedule for his comeback, according to Collingwood’s general manager of football, Graham Wright.
