NEWS NOW: A hero is put on injured reserve by the Texans…..

Texas is where On IR, Lamar Miller

The Houston Texans running back Lamar Miller tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last weekend during a preseason game, and he has been placed on injured reserve.

Miller, who was making his season debut, was hurt on his first carry against Dallas on Saturday night when defensive tackle Maliek Collins plowed into his left leg.

Miller, who has been Houston’s primary running back for the past three seasons, led the Texans in rushing last season with 210 attempts for 973 yards.

The Texans will look on Duke Johnson to fill in for Miller, who will be out for the season. Johnson was traded to the team from Cleveland earlier this month.

Backup quarterback signed by the Chiefs

Following the injury of backup quarterback Chad Henne, who will require surgery due to a fractured ankle, the Kansas City Chiefs swiftly acquired veteran Matt Moore on Monday to add depth behind starter Patrick Mahomes.

Chase Litton and Kyle Shurmur are the other two quarterbacks on the Chiefs’ roster, but none of the two young prospects has stood out so far in the preseason.

A seven-year stint with the Dolphins that began as the starter and finished as the backup saw the 35-year-old Moore sit out the last campaign after starting two games for Miami in 2017. Moore is 15-15 in 30 starts and spent three seasons with Carolina.

By cutting three veterans on Monday, the Denver Broncos freed up more than $4 million in salary cap space, money that might be used to add a seasoned middle linebacker or backup quarterback to their roster.

Zach Kerr, a defensive lineman in his sixth season, Dekoda Watson, an outside linebacker in his tenth, and Nick Williams, a returner/receiver in his fifth, were all released by the Broncos.

This season, Kerr was slated a salary of $1.5 million with a cap hit of slightly over $2 million. Williams recently signed a one-year, $805,000 contract with a cap charge of $645,000. Watson’s salary and cap hit were both $1.55 million, and his contract was a cap hit as well.
