Before the deadline, the Midlands team looked into a contract to recruit a new player.
A recent report has revealed that West Bromwich Albion weren’t the only club interested in luring the defensive midfielder to the Championship when they declared their interest in signing him over the summer.
Who just joined West Brom?
At The Hawthorns, Carlos Corberan signed Jeremy Sarmiento and Pipa on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion and Ludogorets, respectively, for the remainder of the season while also securing the permanent services of Josh Maja during the previous transfer window.
The three senior squad members who permanently left the club were Dara O’Shea, Jake Livermore, and David Button. Karlan Grant, Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Zac Ashworth, and Ethan Ingram also temporarily left the club in search of more consistent playing time elsewhere.
Yann M’Vila, who is currently a free agent after leaving Olympiacos at the beginning of July when his contract expired, may be a target for the Baggies as they evaluate their possibilities in the market before January. During his tenure with Diego Martinez’s team in Greece, the Frenchman made a total of 140 games (Transfermarkt – M’Vila stats), but after deciding to start over and embark on a new adventure elsewhere, the 33-year-old was virtually thought to be on his way to the Midlands.
Update on the Yann M’Vila transfer
According to a trade update on Yann M’Vila provided by the French publication RMC Sport (via The 72), both West Brom and Sunderland “showed interest” in the central defender over the summer. Both the Baggies and the Black Cats “looked into a deal” for their unemployed target, but despite their investigation, a deal did not materialize prior to the start of the season.
The clubs he will select as his next stop are Atletico Madrid, Le Havre, and Istanbul Basaksehir, while there are other admirers of him outside.
Yann M’Vila’s talent level?
M’Vila is a “quality” player who has amassed a ton of experience, according to former Sunderland professional Ola Toivonen. Considering the advantages he could bring to the team, West Brom should think about making another inexpensive move for this free agency.
