Nat Fyfe, the captain of Fremantle, will not be starting the preseason until after he has more surgery on his problematically injured shoulder.
The 30-year-old’s season in 2021 was cut short following surgery to realign his dislocated right shoulder in July.
Nevertheless, Fyfe’s recuperation “plateaued,” according to Peter Bell, the football coach of Fremantle, and he had to have surgery once more.

Bell released a statement saying, “We sent Nat in for a scan because his recovery from his initial shoulder reconstruction surgery had plateaued and, as a result, we found a small crack in the bone block that forms the basis of these types of surgery.”
“Although Nat was following his program religiously and is considered to be extremely conscientious, these bone block fractures are documented side effects of this kind of surgery. Nat has had the procedure revised as a consequence.
“A return to training date will be advised in due course, but even with this setback, we know he will be extremely diligent in his recovery.”
After missing three games due to a dislocated shoulder sustained against the Western Bulldogs in Round 12, the seasoned midfield player made a comeback and continued to play despite the discomfort.
However, a resurgence of the injury during Round 19 versus Sydney forced Fyfe to have surgery, which put an end to his year.
The two-time Brownlow medallist has participated in 202 AFL matches.
