Marquise Blair, a safety for the Seahawks, was lost due to what Pete Carroll worries may be a serious knee injury.
On Sunday night, the Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 35-30, but the victory wasn’t without a price.
Safety Marquise Blair, Seattle’s nickel defensive back and backup free safety, departed the game with what Seahawks coach Pete Carroll described as a “fairly serious” knee injury in the second quarter.
When Quandre Diggs was sent off for a helmet-to-helmet hit late in the first quarter, Blair, who had started the game at his regular nickel position, moved to free safety.
“I don’t know how serious it is, he’ll be getting tested, MRIs and stuff like that to check out his knee,” Carroll stated. He has already been such a cool and important component of this club in the early going of the season. It makes me ill. This guy is only beginning his relationship with us. It’s really too bad. Because they had to help him off the field and do other things, it’s definitely quite serious.
Lano Hill replaced Diggs and Blair at free safety, and Ugo Amadi filled the nickel position. Despite the absence of Diggs and Blair, the secondary still managed to produce plays, highlighted by Hill’s huge play on the final play of the game and Ugo Amadi’s eight tackles, one of which was for a loss. Cam Newton was forced to shift the run inside after Hill knocked out the fullback attempting to block him, and L.J. Collier was waiting to undercut the Patriots quarterback for the game-ending tackle.
Unfortunately, Bruce Irvin, a linebacker, also suffered a knee injury during the game, forcing him to leave alongside Blair in the fourth quarter.
Carroll stated, “I was told he has a sprained knee. “He was walking around, was in the locker room and all that afterwards, so we’ll see what happens.”
Irvin gave a brief update on Twitter as well.
side tackle In the first quarter, Duane Brown had a brief break from the action, but he was able to come back and complete the game.
Carroll claimed that “he got rolled up on.” He got rolled up a little in an awful circumstance, although I’m not sure if it was his ankle or what. I’m sure it infuriated him that it did, but he still returned to the field to finish the game and played well.
