Charlie Mulgrew says Philippe Clement needs to implement a “clear style of play” before January to improve Rangers’ summer acquisitions. Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscore (18 October), the former Celtic player said that while the Hoops are currently far ahead of the Gers, a title challenge could be mounted in the coming years if Clement can assemble a team that fits his vision.
Mulgrew advised the Belgian to enhance Michael Beale’s summer acquisitions if he wants to be successful at Rangers and establish his value.
Rangers need to observe a distinct playing style on the pitch, according to Mulgrew. We can see that Celtic has a chance to reclaim the title in the following few years if he can sign certain players in the next few transfer windows.
“Celtic are currently well in front. Rangers are in need of a manager who can bring in a definite style of play so that everyone can understand it, build on it, and bring his players in.
“He needs to get the best out of the guys who are there because he won’t be turning over 11, 12, players in January. Any manager who is worthy of their position or who wants to succeed at Rangers will have to manage.
The Gers may soon appoint their 20th manager in club history if Clement can’t get the new additions to play before Christmas.
Although the Belgian’s reputation nearly ensures that won’t happen, receiving a tune-up from players like Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, and Jose Cifuentes should be the first focus on the training pitch.
On paper, it makes sense why the team signed such individuals, but under Beale, such potential was wasted in the early weeks of the season.
It’s difficult to predict how well the former Monaco and Club Brugge player will perform from the outside because Clement has a reputation for effective man management and Beale did too.
The Ibrox faithful are arguably most eager to see Rangers’ lost identity returned to the positive side of Glasgow, but as usual, victories are crucial.
