Update on injuries: Shiel had minor foot surgery

Dylan Shiel, a midfielder for Essendon, had foot surgery today.

Shiel had trouble with foot pain in the second half of the season and was unable to play consistently after round 17.

Dan McPherson, the general manager of football at Essendon, gave an update regarding Shiel’s injuries.

“Dylan’s conservative rehab approach hasn’t provided pain relief for him, and his foot hasn’t fully recovered post-season,” McPherson stated.

“It was determined that more intervention was necessary to give him the best chance to return to training and playing pain-free after speaking with a surgeon in the last few days. He had a little procedure today to achieve this.

“Dylan embodies the epitome of professionalism and will stop at nothing to get back to full training as soon as feasible. After being off his legs for a few weeks, he will gradually start to reload during the lead-up to Christmas.

Essendon intends to furnish additional updates as his recuperation advances.
