Barnes is qualified to compete internationally for both Scotland and England. Although he was born in England, his maternal grandparents were both born in Scotland. Furthermore, according to The Times, Barnes is ‘keen’ on the notion of joining the Scottish national team.
Despite having an England cap, Barnes has only played once for the Three Lions. Barnes’ only international appearance was in a friendly match between England and Wales, which England won 3-0.
