The Eagles’ season after their historic run to the Super Bowl has fallen short of expectations, largely because of the team’s injury woes.

The aim of every NFL club after winning a Super Bowl is to return and try to do it again. That isn’t the case for the Lombardi Trophy winner from last year. The Philadelphia Eagles have been severely impacted by injuries this season—and in all the wrong ways.

In sports like basketball, where one player can make or break a team, an injury to that star can have disastrous consequences (think of LeBron James, who led the Cleveland Cavaliers to the NBA Finals on his own). Injuries to a single (non-quarterback) player in the NFL, however, are usually less severe because there are 11 guys on the field and clubs have far greater depth.

The Eagles do not fit the standard NFL injury scenario. For this Eagles team, injuries have befallen nearly every prominent player, every side of the ball, and every position at some point. The Eagles’ injury problems began well before the season had got underway and persisted until week nine.
